Exploring Creativity Through Multiple Mediums: My Journey as an Artist

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my creative journey, it’s that art can take many forms—and each medium has its own magic. Whether it’s painting, surface design, stained glass, or ceramics, I’ve found joy in combining my skills together to create unique, handcrafted pieces that reflect my passion for creativity.

Where It All Began: From Paintbrush to Pottery Wheel

My artistic journey started with painting—a quiet escape during my kids’ nap times, where I could experiment with colors and textures. Over time, what began as a simple hobby grew into a deep love for creating. From there, I began exploring surface pattern design, a natural extension from my painting hobby. Surface design lets me translate my artwork into patterns for textiles, wallpapers, and other home decor items. It’s where my love for creating intersects with the world of design, and I’m always amazed at how a simple sketch can become something functional and beautiful, like fabric or wallpaper that breathes life into a room.

This led me to explore new mediums. I found myself drawn to ceramics, where I could shape something beautiful and functional from a ball of clay. The process of shaping, firing, and glazing brought me the same sense of satisfaction as painting, but with the added element of utility. There’s something incredibly rewarding about creating something with your hands that others can use in their everyday lives.

As I continued to evolve as an artist, I discovered the beauty of stained glass art. This medium fascinated me because of the way light interacts with the glass, bringing each piece to life in a way that feels almost magical. The interplay of color and light is something I first fell in love with in painting, but stained glass allows me to express it in three dimensions, creating art that changes with the light throughout the day.

The Common Thread: Bringing Art into Everyday Life

At first glance, painting, surface design, ceramics & stained glass may seem like very different disciplines, but to me, they all share a common thread: the desire to bring beauty into everyday life. Whether it’s a hand-painted pattern on fabric, a vibrant stained glass panel catching the sunlight, or a hand-thrown ceramic vase on a kitchen table, my goal is to create art that is not only beautiful but also functional, with a focus on craftsmanship and originality.

I’m excited to share more about my creative process, inspirations, and projects with you here on the blog. Whether you’re a fellow maker, a lover of handmade art, or someone looking to bring a little more beauty into your life, I hope you’ll find inspiration here. Creativity is an ever-evolving journey, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next!
